The sun is rising on what looks to be the start of a beautiful day. The first sign that comes into view reads Covenant Grove. The Grove is a horse farm located right outside Athens, Georgia. As the scene passes over the fields you notice only two riders walking their horses away from the barn. The scene fades down to the exit of the barn where you see Steven Steele. Steele is about half way down the barn petting a beautiful white horse. In Steele’s left hand there are three carrots. Steele feeds the horse, as he pats him on the head. After a few moments Steele gives the horse the last carrot. Steele walks away from the horse and as he exits the barn into the sunlight Steele pulls his ball cap down.
Steele walks around to the side of the barn and you hear rustling. Moments later Steele returns with a saddle. Steele walks back inside the barn and then after a few moments of waiting Steele returns leading the horse by the reigns. Steele stops for a moment and with a grin he finally breaks the silence.
“No her name is not Raven. Yeah I’m sure you thought I was building that little joke up but no. I have more respect for my horse then that. Her name is Faith and she is a little over three years old. Well let me take that back, she isn’t my horse but she is a marvelous specimen. She is a cross between a Trakehner and Hanoverian. No I didn’t do my homework, I simply asked the owner of the Grove. Yeah I’m sure I was dazzling you guys with my ever expanding knowledge.”
Steele stops and second and reaches into his back pocket and pulls out a can of Skoal. Steele packs the can down and grins.
“Excuse me while I put a pinch of unexpected and shocking in.”
Steele opens the can and takes out a good sized pinch and puts it in his bottom lip. Steele wipes his mouth and puts his can back in his back pocket. Steele spits a little on the ground and then looks back at his horse. Steele pats her on the side.
“You might be right TJ, I might just be playing that same old song I did back in 2003. You might just be right on the money. TJ, you also might be right about me groveling for a job with CWF, but remember I didn’t grovel once, I got to grovel two more times after that. After I made an ass out of myself not on one occasion but three that got me fired from that company I had to grovel and beg and plea for another chance, and if you remember TJ that third time was suppose to be the very last time. Remember? If it wasn’t for a little promotion called the ICWA and if it weren’t for that company folding into the CWF and Drew Carrig taking over CWF I would have never had a chance at the CWF again. See TJ, I owe Drew for my last chance with CWF and I owe Drew for a chance here in CWR.”
“So yeah you are spot on with your comments. I won’t deny it and I never will. I was immature and selfish. I thought my shit didn’t stink when it was the odor that stood out the most. Back then I stayed in Gabe’s little dream world and it wasn’t until my last chance with CWF that I fully broke from that shell. However that wasn’t good enough. Dropping the name Gabriel took it further. Once I dropped that everything changed for me and I got the job done on several occasions.”
Steele pauses as he spits on the ground again. Steele then begins to walk forward. He leads Faith as they begin a slow and easy walk toward the gate that leads down to the fields.
“If you’re looking for a retort TJ then you are slightly mistaken. I won’t admit you are wrong. TJ, our careers are completely different from one another. TJ when I look at you and I think about your career I see a history of underachieving. I see a career full of missed opportunities. TJ you career truly a country song and maybe just maybe if we were to play it backwards it wouldn’t suck so bad…maybe? At least we can hope so.”
“Then if you look at mine you will see an even worse song that not matter how many times you played it or remixed it…it would still blow…However that would be the first part of my career. If you look at the last four years you see no passed up chances. I made a name for myself and TJ you just stayed well TJ.”
Steele pauses again. Steele walks up to the gate and opens it. Steele smiles as he walks back to his horse.
“TJ I am looking forward to our championship match. TJ I am looking forward to see what you think you can do. This will be the match to see where we are in our careers right now. I have a differing opinion then you do. You can choose to ignore me and mock me all you want, but when it is all said and done TJ this is one opened book that you won’t be able to write an ending to.”
“Do you honestly think you can just walk right thru me? While you might have been able to do that to Travis Smith you won’t do that to me. Why? Well that’s really simple. Travis doesn’t have a chip on his shoulder. Travis is a hall of famer, and Travis has nothing left to prove. TJ when you beat Travis you just won another hollow victory. You got a win that didn’t matter, but it mattered to you because you beat Travis Smith, but TJ here’s the problem with that. Travis wasn’t Travis. He didn’t give you the showing he would have given me or Matt Thornhill. TJ do me a favor, go back in time about five years and beat Travis Smith then. Come back and then say that open chapter of your life is now closed because if you have the balls to say it’s closed now then you are lying through your teeth.”
“As far as I go TJ…I have a chip on my shoulder. I have a bone to pick with you. TJ, you and I have a lot of unfinished business. So I want to see your break me and just close the Steele chapter in your book with no problem. However that is just a want and not reality. When reality does set in on you TJ Raven you will then have a clear understanding of how out of touch with reality you really are.”
Steele grins as he climbs on top of his horse. Steele looks up at the clear blue sky and he can feel the crisp morning air on his skin. Steele nods his head.
“Say hello to Alice for me.”
Steele snaps the reigns and the horse begins to trot. Steele and his horse are out of eye sight within seconds. The scene flashes quickly up to the sky and the sun appears to have eyes and a smile…a BIG nothing but teeth grin and as the scene fades the sun winks at you…end feed.
